Rose water lemonade

June 16, 2014 By Nora 1 Comment

There was a time in our life, when Z was working abroad for a longer period of time, and I didn’t really feel like cooking only for myself (speaking of pre-diet times). I stumbled upon a vegetarian take-away place, which was great, considering that Z was always the meat-eater from the two of us, so I had some time to live for my vegan wishes. They made great Indian food, and this place was where I tasted lemonade with rose water for the first time. I enjoyed it really much, so next year, when the summer heat striked Budapest once again, I had a sudden craving for rosewater lemonade.

I spent some time looking for rose water in oriental shops. Right after tasting our home made version for the first time, my husband said that “it’s like drinking flowers”. 🙂

Ingredients for 1,5 liters (approx. 6 cups):
freshly pressed juice of 3 lemons
2 teaspoons of rose water
sweetener to taste (stevia, xylitol, etc.)
1,5 L or 6 cups of filtered water

Just mix the ingredients and let it cool in the fridge until chilled. Enjoy!

Remember to use organic lemons to avoid preservatives applied to the lemon peel. When adding your sweetener of choice, keep in mind that rose water gives a sweet experience in itself, so you may need less sweetener than expected.
I used stevia liquid, as I’m still experimenting with stevia liquid and powder. So far, the liquid is handy and useful in drinks, also easy to take with me, and I perefer stevia powder for baking.
