It’s that time of year, again… Generally speaking, I’m not a huge fan of holiday sales and decorating at the beginning of November, I’d rather enjoy my holiday cheers in December. There is but this one small indulgence that fits in my mornings just perfectly, gives me a sense of festivity without being too much: salty, spicy charamel lattes…

I already told you how much my morning lattes mean to me in this post. I usually have a sugarfree charamel latte with almond or soy milk. Occasionally I like to spice up my wake up cup with e.g. some salt, spices and sugarfree charamel sauce.

I was sooo happy with my first cup of this drink: when starting my sugarfree&lowcarb diet, in the beginning I thought that I have to say good-bye to hot, sweet&spicy drinks. Luckily mistaken…
To enjoy a drink like this, you only need to make some sugarfree charamel sauce ahead and a mix of spices for sprinkling.
Salty coffee spice mix:
1 teaspoon of ground cardamom
2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon
3 teaspoons of sea salt
For my cup of morning happiness I
- preheat my coffee mug with hot water,
- pour in some sugarfree charamel flavoring,
- brew a strong espresso into the cup,
- steam approx. 160 ml (2/3 cup) of soy or homemade almond milk,
- pour the steamed milk over the espresso,
- decorate my latte with some sugarfree charamel sauce and sprinkle over with the spice mix.
Enjoy!
I wanted to know how many carbs this drink actually has, so yes, I weighed the charamel sauce I used. 🙂 It turned out to be about 2 grams, so the carb count is altogether (charamel sauce and milk included) approc. 6g CH/cup. Compare that to the store-bought fancy lattes with over 40g carbs/cup!
